We Offer Instructional Support To All Teachers

“Powerful learning for powerful teaching” is the driving force behind what we do at TeachEDX. In recognition that teaching is an exceptionally complex profession, we offer instructional support to teachers at all stages of their career. As teachers, we know that one-size-fits-all professional development does not meet the needs of all teachers. We passionately believe that personalized, continuous professional learning and instructional support is essential for teachers who want to raise the quality of their practice to help their students maximize their learning potential.

Meet Venessa Powell

The Brains Behind The Operation

I never wanted to become a teacher. As a matter of fact, anybody who knew me knew that I was set on becoming a graphic designer. Some would say it was by divine intervention others may call it the universe redirecting me, but circumstances led me to teachers’ college at the end of high school where I pursued secondary mathematics education.

Founder and Chief Training Officer

I never wanted to become a teacher. As a matter of fact, anybody who knew me knew that I was set on becoming a graphic designer. Some would say it was by divine intervention others may call it the universe redirecting me, but circumstances led me to teachers’ college at the end of high school where I pursued secondary mathematics education.

My journey to teacher education and development began over 15 years ago as a classroom teacher in rural Jamaica. My first two teaching years were the most difficult for three main reasons.

  • My training did an exceptional job at equipping me with the content I should teach but was woefully lacking in helping me learn the best ways to teach it.
  • I felt alone trying to navigate so many of my new teaching responsibilities simultaneously and I had no access to a more experienced person to offer support.
  • There seemed to be a subtle competitive nature among my colleagues. Collaboration was not welcomed as credit for passes on external examination was to be credited to one person only (or so it appeared). Seeking help was treated as a signal of incompetence rather than a badge of strength.

My vision for TeachEDX is to create a space where all teachers, regardless of their number of years in service, can collaborate to learn together, sharpen their skills and build each other. I want to us to work together to raise the profile of the profession by committing to retooling ourselves, not because we are incompetent, but in acknowledgment of the fact that regardless of how good we are, changes in the field and the various needs of our students require us to constantly evolve and keep abreast of new developments.

As teachers, we never stop learning. Let’s collaborate to engage in powerful learning so that we can engage in powerful teaching.
